All New Mitsubushi MIRAGE 1.2 Litre, Prices start at RM56,000

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has officially launched the all-new Mitsubishi Mirage for malaysian market. Buyers and fans who are interested can already place their bookings now at any authorized Mitsubishi dealer nationwide.

Three versions will be offered with a choice of manual transmission or CVT (INVECS-III). The Mitsubishi Mirage equipped with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MIVEC engine which is can produce about 77hp and 100Nm of torque. The car is a lightweight car which is the weight is about 850 kg and has a claimed fuel consumption about 21 km/litre measured in the New European Driving Cycle(NEDC).

Standard features that come with both variants include ABS, EBD, dual front airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, Bright View instrument cluster, leather wrapped steering wheel and a 2-DIN touchscreen audio system with USB and iPod interface. The CVT gets a Smart Key with Push Start button and fully digitized automatic air conditioning system which the manual variant lacks.

The car is available in five colour options – Lemonade Yellow Metallic, Eisen Gray Mica, Red Metallic, White Pearl and Cool Silver Metallic. Prices start at RM56,000 for the 1.2 M/T to RM64,000 for the 1.2 CVT on the road without insurance. Additionally, the first 500 individuals who book the Mirage will receive a mystery gift.

2012 Toyota 86 Sports Coupe Formally Launched In Malaysia, Priced From RM243K

UMW Toyota Motor launched the much-anticipated Toyota 86 lightweight sports car in Malaysia. The company has put the Toyota 86 price range at RM243,000 for the manual Toyota 86 and RM249,000 for the automatic Toyota 86. The Toyota 86 comes with a three-year or 100,000 km warranty for all buyers. Toyota 86 was created to obey the endless desires of car enthusiasts’ worldwide.

Engine and specification:

Equipped with 16-valve DOHC flat-four engine engine, it has a capacity to deliver 200 PS of maximum power at 205 Nm of torque. it ia mated to A six-speed manual gearbox with a short-throw lever and a six-speed automatic gearbox complete with paddle-shifts. It also features a Torsen Limited Slip Differential (LSD) to improve the traction.

The manual transmission is able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and has a top speed of 226 km/h. On the other hand, the automatic transmision 86 is slightly slower, requiring 8.2 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 km/h and having a top speed of at 210 km/h.

It also features a suspension system with MacPherson struts at the front and double-wishbones at the back that improves general handling of the lightweight sports car

Exterior, Interior & Safety:

Toyota 86 is available with six colourful collections such as Crystal Black Silica, Sterling Silver Black, Lightning Red, Galaxy Blue Silica, Orange Metallic and Satin White Pearl, which costs RM 800 extra. UMW Toyota Motor has included a set of 17-inch alloy wheels of the dimension 215/45 Michelin Primacy HP tyres for the sports car.

The 2+2-seater, two-door sports that offers driving enjoyment that will delight the auto fan.

In terms of safety, Toyota 86 comes with seven airbags are standard (front, side, curtain, driver’s knee), anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic brake distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC).

2012 edition Impreza WRX STI unveiled

SEPANG: The 2012 edition of the tarmac scorching Subaru Impreza WRX STI made its debut at the Sepang International Circuit in conjunction with the Super GT’s Round 3 featuring a host of improvements.

The all-wheel drive performance car with a 300bhp/350Nm boxer engine now gets wider wheel arches to provide better airflow to the braking systems. This also helps to keep the engine bay cooler.

Features also include a multi-mode vehicle dynamics control system that comes with “Normal” for everyday driving, “Traction” for performance and “Off” for fun driving on the track.

In addition, the Subaru Intelligent Drive allows the driver to select “Intelligent” mode for smooth power delivery and emphasis on fuel efficiency, “Sport” for faster throttle response or “Sport Sharp” for the most direct throttle and precise rev control across the entire engine speed range.

Other improvements include a deep front bumper, side sills and rear spoiler to generate downforce at high speeds.

All-New 2012 Toyota CAMRY Launched - Review and Photos

The new generation launched this week sees Toyota Camry assembly back in Malaysia. According to Takashi Hibi, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor, the move was made because the potential volume for the Camry in Malaysia is expected to be at least 10,000 units annually.

The all-new Toyota Camry has two engine options: the 2.5-litre 2AR-FE and 2.0-litre 1AZ-FE. Both are all-aluminium 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engines with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). While the 1AZ-FE engine is an updated version of the one offered in the previous Camry, the 2AR-FE engine is brand new to the model and has Dual VVT-i which is more advanced as it optimizes the timing not only on the intake valve side but also the exhaust valve side. This enhances engine performance significantly while also improving fuel economy and reducing pollution.

The Camry 2.5V (top version) comes with a Smart Entry and Start System which is a nice feature and becoming more common these days. It makes inserting the key unnecessary so you can keep it the remote unit in the pocket.

Power and torque ratings for the two engines are claimed to be among the best in their class: for the new 2AR-FE, maximum power is 181 ps at 6000 rpm with 231 Nm of torque at 4100 rpm while the proven 1AZ-FE, with some internal improvements, delivers 148 ps at 6000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque is generated at 4000 rpm.

A new 6-speed electronically-managed automatic transmission is fitted to the Toyota Camry 2.5V. Besides offering extra forward ratios, this multimode transmission also gives the driver the option of manual sequential shifting when desired. With six ratios, the extended spread allows for smoother transitions between gears and at higher cruising speeds, the engine speed can be lowered to save fuel. The transmission also has Flex-start control which makes use of the lock-up clutch to enhance power transfer efficiency and lower engine speed earlier, contributing to excellent fuel economy. Additionally, Flex lock-up control continues to operate after a change to second gear for enhanced driveability.

Proton PREVE Launched - Premium with CFE Turbo

Proton PREVE (Prevé) has officially launched. The new Proton product named Prevé is the official name for the highly awaited Proton P3-21A as referred by Proton before launching. First off, why and what’s Prevé, the name pronounced as (pray-vay) is derived from the word “Preve” which means to prove a point.

Sold in three variants, the PREVE is priced at RM59,990 for the 1.6-litre IAFM+ engine variant with five-speed manual transmission, RM62,990 for the 1.6-litre IAFM+ with six-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) and RM72,990 for the premium 1.6-litre CFE turbocharged engine with seven-speed CVT. The variant in solid colour is RM450 cheaper.

The car boasts a rigid structure, thanks to the usage of stronger steel components made using Hot Press Forming (HPF) technology.

Preve’s instrument meter cluster is also more advanced than previous Proton models and comes with a Smart Info Display to show useful details such as journey time, distance to empty tank, key fob and car battery low warning as well as bulb failure warning.

Other safety features include seatbelts with pre-tensioner helps to secure driver and passenger in position during the initial moments of a collision, two front airbags and anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution while the Premium variant gets two more side airbags and electronic stability control.

The Premium variant also gets additional paddle shifters, wipers with rain sensor, start-stop button and a CD Player with Bluetooth connectivity and built-in satellite navigation system.

Other standard equipment across the range include 4G in-car WiFi system, 16-inch tyres, numerous cup and bottle holders and a sporty-tuned suspension.

The IAFM+ engine churns out 109bhp and 150Nm of torque which should translate into adequate performance for a regular 1.6-litre family car.

Meanwhile, the Premium variant’s turbocharged engine produces 138bhp and 205Nm of torque similar to that of a bigger 2.0-litre car.

Available colours are Blue Lagoon, Fire Red, Genetic Silver, Tranquility Black, Elegant Brown and Solid White.

All-New Prius C Launched For Malaysia Market

Not too long after the Toyota Prius C (known as ‘Aqua’ in Japan) went on sale in Japan, this particular model has begin rolling out to other regional market gradually. According to Toyota Japan, the introduction of the Prius C is aimed to make the Toyota hybrid cars more affordable. Precisely, to be even more reasonably priced than the Honda Insight 1.3 IMA. Prior the launch, we are shocked to see the price is higher than its rival in Malaysia.

Now, we are glad to know the price of the new Prius C was essentially positioned correctly after the launch @ RM 97,000 on-the-road. Indeed, the estimated price was previously announced @ RM 103,990 earlier before the launch by UMW.

The Prius C is powered by a state-of-the-art, small, light and efficient 1.5-litre (1,496 cc – Engine Model: 1NZ-FXE) Toyota hybrid system with reduction gear. It comes with a selectable electric-vehicle mode (EV Mode) enables driving with only the electric motor. The maximum output @ 73kW from the hybrid powerplant.

The aerodynamic styling provides a comfortable interior in a compact body. The hybrid battery (Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH)) has been placed under the rear seat for maximum occupant and luggage space. The hybrid unit and engine are positioned to create a low centre of gravity for easy manoeuvring. Somehow, the overall package is feature-rich (from performance to safety aspect) and attractively priced.

All New 2012 Kia Optima K5 Launched

Naza Kia Malaysia launched the long awaited Kia Optima K5 today at a special event at their new flagship Kia Red Cube in Petaling Jaya, and Kia is confident of their new offering.

Under the hood is Kia Motors’ fuel-efficient Theta II 2.0-litre petrol engine which produces 165 ps and 198 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Among the premium features included are auto-levelling HID xenon headlamps, individual LED daytime running headlights, dual-zone auto air-conditioner, a plush leather interior, a panoramic sunroof, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and 18-inch alloy wheels. There are no less than six airbags around the cabin and the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) will help the driver avoid accidents.

All-new Optima K5 has been launched at its first ever Kia Red Cube in Malaysia which is located in Petaling Jaya alongside the Federal Highway. The outlet, with a built-up size of 24,350 sq ft, will be the company's flagship showroom in the Klang Valley and will incorporate Kia Motors' new Global Space Identity.

2011 Honda CR-Z Hybrid 1.5-litre Launched in Malaysia

Recently, the long awaited 2011 Honda CR-Z made its debut and launched in Malaysia after the latest announcement in the Budget 2012 about the full exemption of import duty and excise duty for Hybrid models (for 2.0-litre or below) until December 2013. The CR-Z is the third hybrid vehicle that Honda introduces to Malaysians, after the Honda Civic Hybrid and Honda Insight.

Technically, the CR-Z is designed to deliver exceptional fuel economy while offering an entertaining and engaging driving experience. It combines an efficient 84-kilowatt (114PS) 1.5L SOHC i-VTEC engine, a 10-kilowatt (14PS) electric motor and a sophisticated Intelligent Power Unit (IPU).

Additionally, the All-New CR-Z is the first model to feature Honda’s versatile 3-Mode Drive System, which enables the driver to choose and switch modes seamlessly depending on their driving style and road situation. The three modes in the CR-Z alters the responses of the throttle, steering, idle stop timing, climate control and the level of assistance provided by the IMA Hybrid System.

In safety aspect, the All-New CR-Z has been rated one of Japan’s safest cars in 2010, having been awarded the 6-Star JNCAP rating. The CR-Z is equipped with Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) which offers a more stable and sturdier drive while the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure enhances self-protection. The CR-Z also complies with Pedestrian Impact Requirements where head and chest injuries to the pedestrian are minimised during an accident.
